ImageThe Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) has been formally invited to join the World Water Council.

The invitation was extended by World Water Council Director General Ger Bergkamp on 22 April 2009, in light of the Prize's participation in the 5th World Water Forum, which was held in Istanbul Turkey from 15-22 March 2009.

The World Water Forum promotes cooperation among states and organizations to facilitate solutions to the world's water problems.

The 5th World Water Forum, whose theme was "Bridging Divides for Water," attracted a record of 25,000 participants from all over the world, including 25 heads of states, some 180 ministers and UN representatives. The Prize served as part of the Saudi delegation to the forum.

Bergkamp stressed the need for PSIPW to join the World Water Council before 16 July 2009 in order for the Prize to participate in the Council's 5th General Assembly and stand for elections to the Board of Governors.

The Prize is also a member of the Arab Water Council, and Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, PSIPW Council Chairman, has served as Honorary Chairman of the Arab Water Council since its inception in 2004.
