7th Award (2016)

Prizewinners for the 7th award were announced by the Prize Council on 5 October 2016. The 7th Awards Ceremony took place at the UN headquarters in New York on 2 November 2016 and was officiated by His Excellency, UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon and PSIPW Chairman HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz.

5th Award (2012)

Prizewinners for the 5th award were announced at the Prize Council meeting convened in Riyadh on 27 September 2013, which was presided over by PSIPW Council chairman, HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz – Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General for Military Affairs.

8TH Award (2018)


Nominations for the 8th Award (2018) are currently undergoing a rigorous three-phase evaluation process. Nominations are evaluated to determine their originality, potential impact, and applicability. Special consideration is given to how the nominated work contributes to its field of research and its usefulness to society, particularly with respect to development and solving problems on an international level.


Three committees are dedicated to the evaluation of nominations for each of the five prizes:

  1. Preliminary Screening Committee
  2. Referee Committee
  3. Selection Committee

PSIPW enlists the participation of leading scientists from around the world to act as judges on these committees.



  1. 20 February 2016: Call for nominations to the Prize and opening of the online application form for the 8th award.
  2. 31 December 2017: Deadline for receiving nominations.
  3. January-September 2018: The evaluation process.
  4. October 2018: The Prize Council announces the winners of the 8th Award.
  5. November 2018: The awards ceremony for the 8th Award.


Third Award (2006-2008)

For its Third Award, the Prize received 198 nominations from 53 countries, with the newly-inaugurated Creativity Prize receiving 73 of those nominations.

The ceremony for the Third Award took place on Sunday, 16 November 2008 in conjunction with the 3rd International Conference on Water Resources and Arid Environments 2008 and 1st Arab Water Forum, which ran from 16 to 19 November. The ceremony was attended by Prince Willem-Alexander, Crown Prince of the Netherlands, Prince of Orange and Chairman of the Advisory Commission of United Nations Secretary General for Water and Sanitation Affairs.
