Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, president of the Arab Water Council, said: “It is the best Arab Water Forum that I have seen and the best managed event, including the panel discussions as well as the exhibition where latest technologies and innovations are displayed, especially the air-to-water technology that can solve the water scarcity problem in the Arab world.”

awfbooth2021Five companies showcased air-to-water technology and the water producing machines at the Arab Water Forum. The technology has the potential to provide clean drinking water to serve the needs of those who presently lack access to it, and in a sustainable manner.

PSIPW has twice awarded pioneering breakthrough technologies in atmospheric water extraction that are integral to the commercial processes being released currently onto the market. As a result of these and other breakthroughs, water produced from the atmosphere now not only costs less than the desalinated or bottled waters, it has become available for home use, office use and industrial use.

PSIPW’s General Secretary Dr. Abdulmalek A. Al Alshaikh was honoured to receive the “Arab Water Council Prize for Creativity and Innovation in the field of Water Science for Arab Countries”. The focus of the prize this year was on “Non-Conventional Water Resources.”

The award was presented by the President of the Arab Water Council, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, and was received by PSIPW’s Executive Director on behalf of Dr. Al Alshaikh.

The prize was awarded to Dr. Al Alshaikh for his pioneering work on rain and floodwater harvesting and storage. This work has been carried out by the Prince Sultan Institute for Environmental, Water and Desert Research at King Saud University, where Dr. Al Alshaikh serves as its Director. Since 2004, the Institute has been designing and implementing various large-scale nationwide projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the construction of dams, recharge pipes, strategic landscaping and artificial ponds. PSIPW, which has its General Secretariat at the Institute, directly supports these initiatives through the “PSIPW Research Chair at King Saud University”, which is dedicated to the study of water harvesting technologies and strategic planning under climate change conditions.

PSIPW had a booth at the event where it showcased its past winners and called for nominations for its upcoming 10th Award which will be awarded in 2022. Nominations are open until 31 December 2021.
