Linda Abriola - Brown University, USA
Dr. Abriola’s has carried out pioneering research on toxic Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPLs’) in groundwater, ranging from the simulation of their fate to effective methods for cleaning contaminated sites. She developed the first mathematical model to appear in the hydrology literature to describe the interphase mass partitioning and non-aqueous phase migration of organic liquid contaminants in the subsurface. This work and her subsequent multiphase flow modelling investigations have been widely relied upon by others.
